A Cumbrian bag manufacturer has chosen the Lake District Calvert Trust as its charity partner.

Based at Braithwaite, near Keswick, Millican makes a range of ethical outdoor travel bags and accessories.

It takes its name from legendary Millican Dalton who lived in a cave at Castle Crag, Borrowdale, early last century, scraping a living as a mountain guide.

Millican, co-founded by Jorrit Jorritsma and his wife Nicky Forbes, is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

As part of its celebrations it has already donated £5,568 to the trust, raised through their samples and seconds sales of bags and accessories.

Mr Jorritsma said: “As a local brand with active outdoor travel at its heart, we have always admired what the Calvert Trust offers to so many people – challenging disability through outdoor adventure.

"We look forward to getting involved and supporting the Calvert Trust going forward as our charity of choice.”

The Lake District Calvert Trust, based on the shores of Lake Bassenthwaite, is a residential outdoor centre with over 40 years of experience in delivering challenging outdoor adventure holidays for people with disabilities.

It offers residential breaks for schools, groups, families and individuals with their friends and carers.

Jennifer Scott, fundraising manager, said: "It’s fantastic to have the support of locally based company Millican as their charity of choice.

"We are delighted with the enthusiasm of the lovely team at Millican and their appreciation of the benefits of the outdoor activities Calvert provides for people with disabilities."
