A developer is set to find out next week whether work can continue to build three new homes at Lorton Road, Cockermouth.

Foundations for three homes have been laid in the garden of The Rectory without planning permission.

The developer has been advised to stop work on the project until planning permission is granted.

The site already has outline approval for three homes but those now planned would cover a larger area.

Full planning permission for three bungalows on the site has now been applied for.

They would be accessed via a shared driveway between The Rectory and 2 Sunscales House.

Cockermouth Town Council has objected to the plans, which it said would be overdevelopment of the site.

Fifteen letters of objection from have been sent to Allerdale council, raising concerns about issues including flooding, overshadowing and changes to ground levels.

Cumbria Highways, United Utilities and Allerdale council officers working on drainage have not objected to the plans.

The council's development panel will consider the plans at Allerdale House on Tuesday , April 12 at 1pm.

Planning officers have recommended them for approval.
