A Maryport couple have taken over the management of a popular town centre pub.

Theresa Bowness, 45, and her husband of 18 years John, 53, are the new landlords of the Thomas Henry pub on Senhouse Street.

Theresa, originally from Blyth but has lived in Maryport for 26 years, has worked in the pub, owned by chain Bravo Inns, as a barmaid since August.

Mark Dignam and Sharon Forber, who previously managed the pub, have moved back to Warrington to be with family.

Theresa, who used to work in the town's Golden Lion Hotel and the Wave Centre, said: "They offered me the opportunity to become manager and after a couple of months I said okay.

"Me, my husband and two of our daughters have moved in to the accommodation upstairs.

"For now I'm going to keep it as it was because I'm a firm believer in if it isn't broken don't fix it.

"We've got good regular customers and I've had great support from them as well as Sharon and Mark, who put my name forward to Bravo Inns.

"It's a nice pub with a good following and lots of loyal customers who've come in all the time I've worked here."

The pub's four current members of part-time staff have been kept on under the new management.

Theresa and John hope to launch new darts and pool teams to compete in local competitions.
