An official date has been announced for HMV's return to Workington.

The entertainment chain will reopen in its old premises in Washington Square on Wednesday, September 16.

Last month, it was announced that negotiations were ongoing for the company to reopen its doors in the town and an agreement was about to be reached.

Dave Fletcher, town centre manager, has confirmed the company is getting ready to open.

He said: "It's a good quality store. It will be a big boost as a lot of people of all ages follow music in the town and the advantage is it caters for all ages."

HMV closed in Workington in March 2013, which led to 10 job losses.

It is unknown exactly how many jobs will be created when the store reopens, but there have been advertisements for staff posted online.

Posters have been put up in the shop's window confirming that it would be opening again soon.

Mr Fletcher added: "I'm over the moon that it's coming back. I always hoped it would which is why I wanted to bring it back."

Last month, it was revealed that talks were ongoing with another retailer, not yet identified, for a unit in Washington Square.

Muffin Break opened last week in the unit formerly occupied by Phones 4 U and toy shop The Entertainer is due to open in the premises opposite Laura Ashley on August 29.
