A Party in Paradise has come to Maryport.

Yulia Goncalves De Barros is hoping to bring a touch of paradise to local parties with her new Senhouse Street business.

Yulia, 36, came to Cumbria from Portugal five years ago, with husband Manuel and daughter Erika.

She works at Grants fish processing plant.

Earlier this year they returned to Portugal for a double celebration that led to the decision to open Party in Paradise.

She said: "Manuel and I were married in a register office. Erika had been through communion classes here.

"We returned to Portugal where Manuel and I were remarried in the church and Erika took her first communion."

Before coming to Britain, Yulia had created decorations for special occasions, carnivals and festivals.

These included fresh and artificial flower arrangements, costume jewellery, hair clips, tutus, beading and adornments for special occasion clothing.

She planned everything for the family's double celebration and then decided to open her own business.

She added: "I will be providing hand-made gifts and displays for all occasions – baby arrivals, christenings, weddings, special occasions.

"I will continue to work at the fish factory in the meantime."

Her family will help her run the shop, she added.

When the family came from Portugal they settled in Keswick before moving to Maryport three years ago.
