Plans have been revealed for a 15-lodge complex to be built on the edge of Workington.

Gino Paileta has applied for permission from Allerdale council for 15 lodges, with an office, shop, storage area and 38 parking spaces to be built on Cumberland Road, Winscales.

It says that the facility would create four full-time and six part-time jobs.

The 1.9-hectare site was previously approved for a luxury hotel.

In 2000, site owner George Campbell was granted planning permission for a hotel development featuring a conference centre, spa and health and beauty centre.

Initial work began but nothing was built, and in 2008 Mr Campbell asked for permission to put a mixture of 100 static caravans and lodges on the site.

Those plans were turned down by Allerdale council.

Later, plans for 48 log cabins were also rejected.

In 2011 Mr Campbell put the site up for sale.

Allerdale council is due to decide soon whether an environmental impact assessment is required.

John Reed, agent for Mr Paileta, was unavailable for comment.
