Plans for a piece of land to be developed in Workington are taking a step forward.
Site investigations are underway at The Green, near Allerdale House, and the name of the developer is expected to be announced soon.
Allerdale Investment Partnership confirmed in August it was in advanced talks with a company to buy The Green, but declined to name the interested buyers.
The land is owned by Allerdale council and the partnership was set up in 2014 by the authority and Lucent Strategic Land Fund to market surplus council land for development.
A spokesman for Allerdale Investment Partnership said: "Negotiations with potential developers of the land adjacent to Allerdale House are ongoing, and we hope to make an announcement soon.
"There is currently some site investigation work being undertaken on the land. This is standard practice prior to any development being agreed."
The site, off Church Road, is earmarked for hospitality and leisure development in the council's draft local plan.
