Plans have been lodged to transform the former Hopegill centre site on Banklands in Workington into a house.
William Ashcroft, of Frazer Street, Workington, has submitted an application to Allerdale council.
The Hopegill centre is where the services for Cumbria tier three child and adolescent mental health services are housed.
The centre is now based on South William Street in Workington.
A spokesman for the Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said the Banklands building was unsuitable due to accessibility issues.
He added: "The team moved to the Anne Burrow Thomas Centre last year which is a much better environment for children and families.
"We are currently in the process of selling Hopegill."
