A Workington electrical retailer has been selected to become one of the first in the country to stock the first British washing machine to be manufactured in 20 years.

Genesis Home Appliances, on Lowther Road, will stock the new Ebac washing machines after the manufacturer singled out a handful of northern retailers to sell its new range.

Customers of Genesis Home Appliances will be among some of the first in the country to choose from three new models from the North East-based manufacturer.

The washers will feature a revolutionary dual fill, as an alternative to traditional cold fill machines, which means shorter wash times and lower energy bills.

John Riley, of Genesis, said: “We are delighted to offer our customers a British-made product from our heartland.

“We are delighted that Genesis Home Appliances customers in West Cumbria will be get first choice and that it comes with the revolutionary dual fill.”

Ebac has invested £7 million in the development of its washing machines. It is Europe’s leading manufacturer of bottled water coolers and domestic dehumidifiers and is also growing sales in the laundry and refrigeration sectors.
