A Cockermouth pub has new landlords – and an old name.

The Tithe Barn, on Station Street, is being run by Justin Laidlow and Lynne Aitchison.

The pub had been operating under a different name, Shea’s, for the past year.

“Everyone knew it as the Tithe Barn so that’s what it is,” said Justin.

The couple, who have two children, had been running The Wheatsheaf at Embleton for five months but jumped at the chance to run a Cockermouth pub.

“I’m Cockermouth born and bred, so when this place came up we decided to go for it,” said Justin, who is the brother of town councillor Julie Laidlow.

They have redecorated, refitted the kitchen and turned a games room into a dining room.

Liam and Sarah Kirke, who used to run Shea’s, have taken over at The Wordsworth Hotel on Main Street.

The Wheatsheaf is now being run by Raymond Blackburn, owner of Embleton Spa.
