Staff at a Workington company have been joining in the celebrations of Leicester City’s unlikely Premier League victory – by producing thousands of commemorative crisp packets.

The crisps will be handed out to fans at Leicester’s home match with Everton tomorrow, before the champions lift their first Premier League trophy.

Amcor Flexibles Cumbria, based at Salterbeck Trading Estate, supplies packaging for Pepsico, the company which owns the Walkers crisps brand.

To celebrate the Foxes’ amazing triumph, Amcor’s 64 employees have produced limited edition packets with Salt and Victory printed on them.

Walkers has a long association with Leicester, with the company owning two major production sites in the city.

The company used to have its logo on Leicester City’s shirts and their stadium was called The Walkers Stadium between 2002 and 2012.

The packets will feature pictures of Leicester’s players, a badge and the word ‘winners’ on it.

Staff at Amcor have produced around 250,000 packets, which have been filled with crisps in Leicester.

Gary Baker, operations manager for the Amcell business unit, which is based at Amcor, said: “I’m made up. We’ve got a long association of working with Pepsico and Walkers which we’re proud of.

“We’re close to Leicester and we have regular visits to their sites and meetings with them, but not so much football.

“It’s a nice change for people who work on the machines when we get a nice little promotion like this as it’s funky and different.

“As far as we’re concerned we come from an area which is full of underdogs. “Almost the entire factory has been willing Leicester to win the league.”

Claudio Ranieri’s side were 5,000 to one to win the league this season, having narrowly avoided relegation last season. But the form of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante propelled the Foxes to the top of the table.

Earlier in the season, staff at Amcor produced promotional packets with ‘Vardy Salted’ printed on them after Vardy scored in 11 consecutive games.

Curtis Robinson and Neville Roberts, who both work for Amcor at Salterbeck, spent Wednesday at a Walkers factory in Leicester watching the new packets being filled.
