A series of events have been planned to help young people from across West Cumbria apply for apprenticeships when they leave school.

The sessions are being run by Sellafield Ltd, training provider Gen2, Lakes College, and Inspira to help youngsters become “apprenticeship fit”.

AppFit, aimed at 16 to 24-year-olds, will be held from October 24 to 27 at Lillyhall’s Energus building and Lakes College.

Its aim is to teach young people how to complete aptitude tests, give them confidence at interviews and the know-how to fill in an application form.

The first AppFit event was held earlier in the year and welcomed younger teenagers who were considering apprenticeships in the future.

It also includes a tour of Lakes College and Gen2’s training facilities, and the opportunity to ask questions about apprenticeships.

Helen Fisher, head of socio-economics at Sellafield Ltd, said: “AppFit has been designed to help young people see apprenticeships as a plan A after they leave school and help them understand how to complete the application process.

“We understand an apprenticeship application process can be challenging for individuals – they might make an excellent apprentice but lack the experience to pass the application stage.

“That is where we want to help, to ensure that there are no barriers to them becoming an apprentice.”

The event will run from 9am to 2pm every day with each session lasting around an hour.

Monday and Tuesday’s AppFit will be held at Gen2 and Wednesday and Thursday’s at Lakes College.
