Plans to allow about 50 houses to be built on an area of grazing land at Seaton are set to get the go-ahead next week.

Mark Hodgson wants outline planning permission for housing to be built at Lowca Lane, west of Hazelgrove.

Allerdale council policy would require 20 per cent of the homes to be affordable housing to meet proven local need.

Cumbria County Council and the parish council have called for a legal agreement to fund extra education provision in the village if the plan is approved.

Mr Hodgson has agreed to enter into a legal agreement requiring him to pay around £200,000 to support this.

The exact figure would be confirmed once exact house numbers were known.

A new access to the site is proposed, which has been agreed with Cumbria Highways.

The site is close to wind turbines, with the nearest 350 metres from the land.

Seaton is designated by Allerdale council as a principle centre with capacity for major residential growth.

The council's development panel will consider the plan on Tuesday.

Planning officers have recommended that the application should be approved.
