Westlakes Engineering has secured its largest contract to date.
The engineering consultancy, based at Westlakes Science Park, near Whitehaven, is working with the German company M+W Group, which won a £150 million contract to develop an above-ground store for intermediate-level nuclear waste at Sellafield.
It will be known as the Box Encapsulation Plant Product Store Direct Import Facility.
Westlakes Engineering, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, is providing the civil structural design engineering capability.
Andy Hooper, managing director, said: “We had a great start to our tenth year with three framework wins but, without doubt, this latest contract win is the icing on the birthday cake.
"It is twice the size of any other contract we have been awarded and marks a step change in terms of project work with Sellafield.
“The contract with M+W will underpin our work for the next 12 months.”
This is M+W Group’s first Sellafield site contract.
Westlakes Engineering ranks 60th in the New Civil Engineer rankings for forward workload. It employs more than 40 staff and has an annual turnover in excess of £2.5m.
