Eight new maps have been installed throughout Cockermouth.

Visitors will be able to buy printed versions of the hand-painted maps for £1 from vending machines mounted on the signs, as well as from the tourist information centre.

Machines have been installed on Main Street, in Old Kings Arms Lane and Lowther Went as well as five of Allerdale council's car parks.

Funding has been provided by Allerdale council, which gives the borough’s seven towns £10,000 each to use for improvement projects.

Joe Bromfield, town centre manager, said: "I think they look great. A lot of thought has gone into the design and we have had fantastic support from businesses who were keen to support the idea. It should be a real boost for visitors to the town."
