Stephen Kidd will open The Moon and Sixpence on Main Street, selling coffees, drinks, cakes and pastries.
He ran a pop-up coffee shop last weekend for Taste Cumbria, and welcomed more than 500 people over two days.
Stephen, 35, of Market Place, said: “I have a real passion for coffee, I like everything about it, the different processes, methods, how to brew it.
“I lived in Vancouver for three years, that’s where I got immersed in the coffee world.
“This place combines everything I love: great coffee, music and art, in one place.”
Stephen previously worked at L’Enclume in Cartmel and spent a year with Embleton coffee roasters Carvetii.
He plans to use a lot of local suppliers and has kitted out the shop with a mix of old and new.
The tables and counter are made from local wood.
He went back in time for the name.
Stephen said: “Years ago this was a shop selling school uniforms and called The Moon and Sixpence. I remember coming here as a child.
“The shop owner, Joyce Garrard, still owns it and was happy to have the name used.”
His mother, Carol May, is a retired teacher and lives in Broughton.
He has lots of plans for the future, including meals and coffee-making workshops.
Stephen said: “It feels incredible to be here, I have wanted to do this for 10 years and have finally got my dream.
“I have had so much support from family and friends, it’s been great. I got so much good feedback during Taste Cumbria.”
