Plans for 25 new homes at Cairns Chase, Stainburn, have been submitted.

Developer Story Homes wants to add the houses to its existing 150-home development.

The proposal was revealed in the autumn when the company applied to build an extra road on the estate to create access to the field south of the estate where the new houses are planned.

The extension would cover almost a quarter of an acre.

An Allerdale council decision on that plan is still pending.

A company spokesman said a planning application for the houses had now been submitted to the council.

The plan includes a mix of homes with between two and five bedrooms.

Five designated affordable homes are proposed among the mix of family housing.

Three of those would be for two-bedroom houses for rent, with the others, three-bedroom houses, for discounted sale.

Adam McNally, development planner for Story Homes, said: "We believe our proposals will complete the Cairns Chase development and add to the much needed quality new homes to the area, of which 20 per cent shall be affordable housing for people with a local connection."

If planning permission is granted, Story Homes plans to start on site in summer 2017.

The plans will appear at www.allerdale.gov.uk once the application has been validated.
