Plans for 224 new homes on a West Cumbria housing estate will be discussed at a consultation event next month.

Story Homes is behind the development at Strawberry How, Cockermouth.

It already has full planning permission for 96 homes on the estate and outline permission for another 224.

Now it is preparing to submit detailed plans for those with outline permission.

It will hold a public exhibition at All Saints' Rooms, Kirkgate, on March 6 from 3pm to 7pm.

The company is planning a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced homes on the Strawberry Grange development and said up to 100 of them would be designated affordable housing.

A spokesman said: "The development will provide the local community with a range of high quality, high specification homes and would make an important contribution towards the affordable housing supply of homes in Cockermouth.

"The development will inevitably bring economic benefits to the area during the construction phase, including the creation of jobs for local sub-contractors and knock on support for local businesses and supply chains."

After the consultation event, the company said its development team would seek to address, where possible, comments raised before submitting the planning application.

The spokesman said: "Comments made during the consultation event will be summarised and submitted to the council as part of a future planning application."

Anyone unable to attend the event will be able to view information about the plans and download comment forms on the Story Homes website from March 6.

The consultation exercise will last for two weeks with comments to be received by end of Monday 20 March.
