Three Cumbrian businesses are hoping for success in the prestigious British Travel Awards.

Holiday lettings agencies Sally’s Cottages, in Keswick, and Cumbrian Cottages, in Carlisle, have been shortlisted for ‘best UK holiday cottage and self-catering booking company’.

And Archipelago Choice in Keswick is in the running for two awards – ‘best holiday company to the Iberian Peninsula and islands’ and ‘best holiday company to Sub-Saharan Africa’.

The winners will be determined by a public vote, which closes on September 30.

Sally Fielding, the founder of Sally’s Cottages, hopes her business can repeat the success it enjoyed last year, when it received a silver award in the same category.

She said: “As a company, personal customer service is integral to everything that we do and it is phenomenal to be recognised for this by the travel industry’s most respected awards for the second year in a row.

“Our customer opinions mean everything to us, which is why we were the first cottage agency in Cumbria to introduce third-party reviews on our website.

“The public are always our most important judges and it is fantastic that they are responsible for deciding the winners on the night.”

British Travel Awards’ chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “This year there are nearly 700 nominations listed against 83 award categories, and competition to win a British Travel Award will be fierce. In 2015 more than one million votes were cast by the consumer to decide the winners, making the British Travel Awards the largest awards programme in the UK.”

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in London on November 23.
