A treasure trove of weird and wonderful items awaits discovery in a new shop in Workington.

Hanratty's antiques and curios shop, in Murray Road, Workington, is set to open on Monday.

It is the brainchild of Shane Ball, 27, of Derwent Avenue, Seaton and Keith Wallace, of Barepot, who met at a local auction last year and struck up a friendship.

Sharing a passion for antiques and collectibles, they decided to combine their knowledge and go into business.

They will sell and buy items in the shop and also offer a house clearance and valuation service.

Among the quirky objects available are ephemera, militaria, mining memorabilia, pottery, glassware, jewellery and taxidermy.

Most of their stock is locally stocked and includes miners' lamps, railway signs, antique bottles and framed reports on the 1922 St Helen's Colliery disaster.

Keith was the co-owner of Workington Music Store until it closed in 2014 and has also previously owned an antiques shop.

Shane produced balls for Workington's traditional football series Uppies and Downies before stepping down last year to focus on other things.
