A popular Workington nightspot has reopened after being given a new lease of life.

The Vine Bar, which closed in February for refurbishment, is now trading as The Gaslight Bar & Bistro.

Owner Paul Scott decided to take a new approach and has introduced a new range of craft ales, lagers, cocktails, ciders, club sandwiches and tapas.

The Rosemary Lane venue will offer live music on Friday evenings and acoustic nights on Thursdays.

The Gaslight Bar & Bistro officially opened over the bank holiday weekend and will be open Thursday to Sunday.

Paul said: “My accountant put the idea in my head and said that alcohol sales were diminishing.

“They said that if we wanted to do anything it would have to be food and we would need to look into it.

“The Vine Bar didn’t really do food. We did have some microwavable meals, but we were focused more on alcohol and music.

“It’s been totally revamped and it’s gone from being a dark music venue with neon and steel to more of a traditional place with brick tiles and a rustic feel.”

The bar has been transformed, offering booths and a wooden stage for musicians to perform on.

Paul has also taken on five new members of staff following the relaunch.

Paul added: “I’m very excited about the future and I’m looking forward to having a very successful bar and bistro.

“We were determined that if we were going to do it we were going to do it right so that’s why we got a man in from Manchester to train the staff on cocktails.”

  • A Workington bar will open a new cocktail lounge.

Henry’s Bar & Grill on Bridge Street will start running Henry’s Cocktail Lounge from next month.

Customers can take their own music along and a docking station for mobile devices will be provided.

A range of cocktails will be available in the lounge and staff will go on a course to learn how to make the new drinks.
