Work to turn a former Seaton pub into three houses is due start in the summer.

Wayne McCarron, of Lodge Close, Great Clifton, has been granted permission by Allerdale council to demolish the former Coachman Inn at High Seaton, and replace it with the three-bedroom homes.

A demolition statement detailing how the work is to be carried out has been submitted to the council's development panel as part of the conditions of planning approval.

Bob Hardon, of agents Abbey Building Design, said: "Now we need to go out for tender to chose the contractor to do the work.

"We're expecting the work to start around mid-summer."

He added that work is due to be completed within 12 months.

The Coachman Inn was previously called the Weary Traveller and was opened in 1828 by Andrew Harkness.

By 1940, the licensee was Thomas Lamb who owned a coal drift mine behind the pub. Its name was changed to The Coachman Inn in 1964.

In 2005 Sue Bell took over as licensee. The last licensees were Eric Dodd and his wife Tracey in 2009.

The pub closed in 2012 and Mr McCarron bought the building in 2014.
