MARYPORT’S Civic Hall was sold at auction.
The hall went under the hammer at Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground yesterday and was sold for £110,000.
It is not yet known who bought the building but Eddisons, the firm who were auctioning the building said it was a fair price on the day.
Eddisons had put a guide price of between £100,000 and £120,000.
The hall, which officially closed on June 29 with a farewell concert, opened during the 1930s and was known as the Palace Ballroom.
In 1977 it reopened as Maryport’s Civic Hall with Maryport’s Operatic Society performing the first concert with the Sound of Music.
