FORMER CHAMBER CHAIRMAN: Brian Trengove

Mr Trengove, 78, took up the position in January 2011 and has been involved in a number of initiatives.

He has resigned because of the pressure of other commitments.

He said: “We have got lots of working groups now and we have come to the end of the fund-raising for the flood defences so I thought it was a suitable time for somebody else to take over as chairman.

“It has been a fantastic experience and there has been great friendship and co-operation between people.”

Vice chairman Jonty Chippendale will take on the responsibilities of the chairman until an extraordinary general meeting is called, likely to be in September.

Mr Trengove, who co-owns The Spice Club and lives on Main Street, will still be involved in trying to get travel firm Stagecoach to extend its Honister Rambler summer service to Cockermouth and Lorton, as well as some flood issues.

Mr Chippendale said: “Taste Cumbria, the flood pledges, the town guide, Shop 10, the free after 3pm parking initiative and improved relations with the town, borough and county councils are all areas that have benefited highly from Brian’s input.

“Brian will have had a lasting impact for the better.”

Nominations for chairman should be made to secretary, William Moore, as soon as possible.
