A Cockermouth woman’s passion for cooking has led her to open a new sandwich bar in the town.

Wendy Beattie, owner of Wendy’s Hair Salon in Main Street, who also owned Beatford’s in Lowther Went, has decided to open the sandwich bar after choosing to follow a different career path to hairdressing.

She has moved into premises below the salon, Munchiez, and is to name the new business Oasis.

Wendy still owns the building but no longer manages the salon, which was one of the first businesses to recover after the 2009 floods.

It is the first time the ground-floor space has been used since the refurbishment after the floods.

Mrs Beattie, who owns the business with husband Derek, said: “We own the building and I get most satisfaction out of cooking so I just decided to give it a go.”

All of Wendy’s sandwiches will be home made and locally sourced and she will also have home-made soup and specials available every day.
