Cockermouth teen opens ‘pop-up’ shop

A 16-year-old Great Broughton girl has opened up her own pop-up shop in Cockermouth’s Market Place.
Daisy Clack, of West End, opened the shop today to sell vintage clothes and jewellery and items that she has created herself from old materials.
She was inspired to open Vintage Daisy after regularly visiting Liverpool where she saw similar shops, which open on a short-term basis.
She said: “My mum went to London recently and saw pop-up bars and shops there too, which gave me the idea.
“I’d also seen something similar on The Apprentice and I thought it was the perfect time to do it as I am on my summer holidays.”
Daisy, a former Cockermouth School pupil who will attend Keswick School from September to study A-level art, has had help buying products from her mum, Jane Mindar, and other local businesses.
They came across the unit when talking to people about possible venues and spoke to Gwenda and Gerald Davies, who own Cockermouth Antiques and the building which houses the shop.
Mr and Mrs Davies have helped to clear out the premises for Daisy to use. She has set up most of it herself, helped by schoolfriend Georgia De-Groot. It will open seven days a week during this month.
Daisy said: “It will be a great experience and better than doing nothing. It is only here for a short time and I don’t think there is anything here like it.”
She plans to use profits to pay people back who either loaned her items or helped her to set up the shop, as well as using some money for a holiday in Morocco.
