The return of tanker trade to the Port of Workington was marked with the docking of a vessel carrying bio diesel on Sunday.

The ship transported a cargo from Greenergy, Liverpool, to Cumbrian Storage Ltd’s port depot.

The firm, which took over from Simon Storage Ltd three years ago, is the port’s biggest tenant.

In recent years it had been using rail and road transport, but it has redeveloped its port depot for larger bulk storage.

A port spokesman said: “It is good to see vessels back in the port.

“It supports our aim to develop different types of business.

“We are a fully integrated port, with road and railway access.

“CSL has been finding its feet and hopefully, as the business develops, we will see more jobs becoming available.”

The Vinga Safir tanker was due to dock yesterday to take 2,500 tons of used oil from Cumbrian Storage Ltd to Norway.
