HAPPY TO BE BACK: Fiona and Jonty Chippendale back in the Toy Shop on Main Street, Cockermouth, after it was swamped by the November floods

The Toy Shop in Main Street was engulfed with five feet of water during the November floods, and owners Jonty and Fiona Chippendale said they were delighted to be back in their original premises.

The Toy Shop traded from Mitchell’s Tithe Barn for six months after the floods.

Mr Chippendale, 49, of Eaglesfield, who became chairman of the town’s chamber of trade after the floods, said: “It has been six months of very hard work and we opened as soon as we could.

“We are looking forward to seeing all of our old customers and hopefully seeing new customers.

“It was devastating to see the state of our shop after the floods but you have to pick yourself up and get on with things.”

Fiona, 46, added: “We are just waiting for all the other shops to come back now as some are quite far behind with their building work.

“We were grateful we could trade from Mitchell’s but we’ve always wanted to come back to our original shop.

“It looks fantastic and we want to thank everyone who helped us get here.”

Meanwhile, newsagent Mills, on Main Street, has reopened. The store has extended its opening hours from 5am to 10pm.
