KFC in plea for West Cumbria site

Fast food chain KFC is calling on people to suggest possible sites for a branch in the Workington area.
The firm revealed in late 2010 that it wanted to open a restaurant in the town.
In May 2011, it submitted plans for opposite Morrisons at Derwent Drive Retail Park.
But in September it withdrew the proposal, saying that it would be altered and resubmitted.
Then in March, it said it was looking at a number of sites in the area but remained committed to opening a restaurant in the town.
Last night, a KFC spokesman said: “We’re still looking for a suitable location in the Workington area and we’d like to thank our fans for their patience.
“A new restaurant would create around 40 career opportunities for local residents so we’d love to hear from anyone who could recommend a prominent half-acre site in the area.”
She confirmed that the company was no longer looking at the Derwent Drive site, but could not reveal why.
