Lorraine cooks up a new venture with takeaway

Less than a year after a Maryport hair salon reopened following a fire, the business has been turned into a takeaway shop.

Hairport, on Curzon Street, was gutted by fire in February 2011.

At the end of last August the salon reopened after a £70,000 makeover but owner Lorraine Hetherington, 51, said business never returned to its former level.

She has returned instead to her first love of working with food, and this week opened Lorraine’s Kitchen.

Most of the food, including a range of pies, will be cooked on the premises.

She will also serve takeaway breakfasts from 6.30am daily.

She added: “We will gradually add to the menu. I want to bring in old-fashioned sweeties and perhaps a range of ice creams.”

Mrs Hetherington used to run the Wheatsheaf pub in Brigham before she and husband Denis emigrated to Australia.

She has created one part-time job for assistant and friend Kath Kirkbride, and said more jobs could be created if the takeaway takes off.

It will be open from 6.30am Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays.
