Plans to extend Cockermouth hotel

Plans for four new bedrooms and a gym have been lodged with Allerdale council by a Cockermouth hotel.
The Trout Hotel, on Crown Street, was granted planning permission for the extension in 2009 but had to put everything on hold because of the floods in that year.
It has had to reapply to the council because the permission had lapsed.
Sue Eccles, managing director, said: “We were trying to get back to the levels prior to the floods. We rebuilt during 2009 and 2010 to try and get the business back on track.
“We decided to do a trial of sending guests to use the facilities at the leisure centre and the uptake went extremely well with 80 per cent of the residents staying using the gym. Therefore we thought it would make sense to have one on site.”
The four new bedrooms would be created next to a cottage on Low Sand Lane, bought by the hotel in 2007 and converted into two suites.

The Trout Hotel has really worked hard to recover after the floods. I have been to their restaraunt and bistro a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are really friendly and look after the customers. It's good to hear they are expanding their business which will lead to more visitors spending money in West Cumbria. I think a leisure suite will be welcomed by visitors to the hotel.
Well done The Trout, keep up the good work!!
