An Allerdale council worker has been sentenced for attacking and threatening a man.

Jonothon James Laycock, 39, of Jackson Road, Salterbeck, Workington, who is the council’s scrutiny co-ordinator, appeared before Carlisle Crown Court on Friday.

He admitted assaulting and threatening a 56-year-old Workington man with a blade or sharp pointed object in a public place.

The incident happened on June 9 on Jackson Road.

He was handed an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

The judge also ordered Laycock to carry out 20 days of rehabilitation activities and to pay £140 victim surcharge.

Andrew Seekings, corporate director at Allerdale council, said the authority will be following its formal internal procedures following Laycock’s sentencing. Laycock has been suspended.
