Maryport's Senhouse Roman Museum has been officially designated an autism-friendly attraction.
The museum has been working with the West Cumbria Autism Support Group to ensure that the venue is welcoming to children with autism.
Jane Laskey, museum manager, said she and volunteers worked with the group to ensure that they are providing a service and an atmosphere in which children with autism and their families would feel welcomed.
She said: "Some children with autism find crowds difficult so we will do after-hours sessions for them, when nobody else is there.
"We understand that many children with autism enjoy art so we will provide art projects.
"Because some have shorter attention spans there will be several activities that families can enjoy at their own pace."
