Police are urging local residents in the Keswick area to ensure they lock their doors and windows after an intruder was found in a house in Portinscale.
On Saturday around 10.50am a man heard footsteps upstairs in his home.
He found a male intruder, who claimed to be looking for his B&B.
The offender was white, in his late 40s or early 50s, well-tanned, around 5ft 7”, clean shaven and wearing two jackets and a brown leather/suede flat cap. He spoke with a Liverpool accent.
Nothing was stolen in the break-in.
Police believe people from the Liverpool and/or Manchester areas are targeting Keswick for sneak-in burglaries during daylight.
Anyone with any information should call Cumbria police's west CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
