A young darts player admitted punching a barman after a row in a fast food restaurant.

Matthew Smith, 20, of Yeowartville, Workington pleaded guilty to assaulting Andrew Dunn in Workington's McDonald's at 2am on June 25.

Prosecuting, Diane Jackson, said Smith had been for a night out and began arguing with Mr Dunn while the pair were waiting to be served in the restaurant.

She said the defendant felt that Mr Dunn had "pushed in", and after an exchange of words Smith punched Mr Dunn in the face - knocking his glasses off and causing his nose to bleed.

Workington Magistrates Court heard Mr Dunn, who was a barman at Yankees in Workington, had served Smith earlier in the night.

The court heard the defendant is an apprentice bricklayer and a PDC Youth Darts player.

He was fined £65 and ordered to pay £85 costs, a £30 victim surcharge and £50 in compensation.
