A former soldier who brandished a knife in front of his next door neighbour has been jailed.

Drunken Antony Aiken, 37, turned violent after being invited by Sheree Graham to her house party in Maryport.

After an incident inside the house, on September 17, Aiken left - but loitered on the front doorstep.

He struggled with Miss Graham and produced a Stanley knife which she eventually seized from him - but in the process she suffered five minor wounds to her forearm.

Aiken. of Ellenfoot Drive, Maryport, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court having admitted an actual bodily harm assault and possessing a bladed article.

He saw service on the frontline in the Middle East during six years with the Royal Irish Regiment, the court heard, and now had mental health issues.

However, Judge Peter Davies noted he also had previous convictions for assault and disorder.

Jailing Aiken for 10 months, he said: "Any offence with a knife in a public place must be custody,"
