An ex-soldier who turned violent on a Maryport street twice in two days has been sentenced by a judge.
Melvyn Stephenson, 36, jumped on and damaged vehicles at Grasmere Terrace on September 10.
The following day he was both heard shouting and seen acting aggressively despite there being children nearby.
He was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday having previously admitted two affray charges, and also a shoplifting offence on September 10.
Judge Peter Davies heard Stephenson, previously of Centenary Close, Maryport, was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder following an Army career which included service in Afghanistan and the Middle East.
Having considered background information and also references, Stephenson was given a three-year community order.
He must also complete a 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement and abide by a condition which states that he must reside at specified accommodation in Egremont.
