A man accused of attempting to murder a teenage girl is set to go on trial later this year.

Adrian Mark Fallows, 39, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today via a video link from custody.

During a 15-minute hearing before Judge Peter Davies, Fallows formally entered not guilty pleas to one attempted murder charge and an allegation of common assault.

It follows the alleged stabbing, at Barepot, near Workington, on 1st June, of a 15-year-old girl. She subsequently received hospital treatment for what were described as "serious injuries".

A 14-year-old girl is said to have been attacked at the same time but was uninjured.

Both girls are said to be from the Workington area.

Judge Davies adjourned the case of Fallows, who is now due to go on trial at the crown court on 21st November. It is estimated the hearing will last four days.

In the meantime Fallows, of Jodrell Street, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, was remanded in custody.
