A 33-year-old man from Workington has been arrested on suspicion of inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.

The man is currently detained for questioning in police custody and is helping officers with their enquires.

Chief Inspector Matt Kennerley said: "We would urge the public to let the police carry out their enquires and investigations so we can best protect vulnerable victims.

"Anyone who tries to take the law into their own hands could interfere with the police investigation and be liable to police prosecution.

"We would also like to remind the public that identifying someone as the victim of a sexual offence is a crime in itself, for which the publisher can be arrested and prosecuted.

"Be smart on social media and think before you post or act."
