A former engineer at Workington‘s Tata Steel has been found guilty of downloading illegal child pornographic images.

Rezaur Rahman, 42, had pleaded not guilty to eight counts of making indecent photographs of children, three of possessing prohibited images of a child and three of possessing extreme pornographic images.

All of the allegations relate to a period between late 2005 and early 2014.

At Carlisle Crown Court on Monday, Rahman was unanimously found guilty of all 14 offences.

The court had heard that they came to light after a colleague at Tata Steel found indecent images on Rahman’s computer in January last year.

Rahman was working in the engineering department at the time.

The colleague informed his superiors and a decision was made to contact police.

More illegal photographs were found when a computer and laptop were seized from Rahman’s Carlisle home.

Rahman, formerly of Botchergate but now of Main Road, Oldham, denied downloading scores of illegal images – some in the most serious category A – and claimed someone else was responsible.

He will be sentenced on September 15.

He was granted bail but must sign the sex offenders’ register with immediate effect.
