A man who was arrested in Cumbria - and found to be in possession of indecent images of children - has been jailed.

Craig Johnson, 29, was arrested on July 6 last year following a police raid on an address in Keswick where he was staying overnight.

Digital devices in his possession were examined and he was charged with three counts of making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of children, possessing an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child and possession of extreme pornographic images.

At Carlisle Crown Court today, Johnson was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison. He pleaded guilty to all offences at an earlier hearing.

Detective Inspector Jenny Beattie, of Cumbria police, said: "I am pleased that Johnson has been brought before the courts to answer for his actions.

"Every indecent image of child means that somewhere a child has been a victim of abuse.

"There is no excuse for accessing or sharing these type of images and we will continue to work hard to bring those that do so to justice in order to protect children."

Johnson, of Manor Chare, Newcastle upon Tyne, has also been placed on the sexual offender register indefinitely and received an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
