A man who sourced illegal drugs for others to take at the Kendal Calling music festival has been spared immediate prison.

Carlisle Crown Court heard 25-year-old Shaun Paul Tierney circulated illicit substances ahead of last year's event to more than a dozen people through a private online WhatsApp group.

Tierney's crime was uncovered after police stopped his car on August 8 and seized more than £1,100 worth of class A cocaine. His phone was analysed by officers who found the WhatsApp chat.

One message sent to Tierney by a group member read: "You're like a walking illegal pharmacy."

Tierney was sentenced today after he admitted offering to supply cocaine, class B amphetamine and class C diazepam - twice - along with the possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Judge Peter Davies spoke of "despicable" criminal conduct. But after hearing of the defendant's genuine remorse and listening to mitigation, Judge Davies suspended a two-year prison sentence for two years.

Tierney, of Fletcher Crescent, Maryport, must complete 300 hours' unpaid work, a six-month night-time curfew and a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
