Parents are being urged to ensure they know who their children are talking to online.

It is part of a Cumbria police campaign to raise awareness about protecting children and preventing child sex offences.

With just over two months until Christmas, they hope to get the message across to parents who will be asked for tablets, smartphones and game consoles.

Inspector Jon Sherlock, from Cumbria Constabulary’s community safety unit, said it was vitally important that parents consider the safety measures and talk openly with their children.

"There are people who will use the internet to target and groom children. We, as a police force, view educating both children and parents on the dangers that lurk online as a high priority."

"One of our key pieces of advice is to communicate with your child on what they are doing online and who they are interacting with."
