A man who attacked who violently attacked his partner three times at their home ordered not to contact her indefinitely.

Carlisle Crown Court heard that 38-year-old Stephen Hanley pushed, bit and bullied Nicola Amena in Maryport during June and July.

Neighbours became so concerned by Hanley's aggressive and erratic behaviour that they recorded one incident involving the couple.

During that, a terrified Miss Amena was heard to say "help me" and "get off".

Hanley was sentenced by Judge Barbara Forrester today having admitted three separate assaults.

Judge Forrester was told of Hanley's "shame and disgust" at his conduct, and the steps being taken to address his alcohol abuse.

As a result, the judge suspended a 12-month prison sentence for two years.

Hanley, of Princess Drive, Maryport, was given a rehabilitation requirement and made subject to a four-month night-time curfew. In addition he must attend a building better relationships course.

A restraining order was imposed which prevents Hanley from contacting or approaching Miss Amena in any way indefinitely.
