Police are appealing for information after a man was robbed at knifepoint in West Cumbria.

The victim, a 29-year-old man from Workington, was walking along Bolton Street in the town when he was approached by three men.

They asked him for a lighter, before one of the robbers attacked him and threatened him with a knife.

The trio stole two gold rings, a gold chain and a watch from the victim before fleeing the scene in a black hatchback car.

One of the robbers was described as wearing a red top with the hood up, and most of his face covered.

The incident happened between 5pm and 5.15pm yesterday.

Detective Chief Inspector Roy Ledingham, from West Cumbria CID, said: “We have a team of detectives working hard to establish what exactly happened and trace those responsible.

“Fortunately the victim only suffered minor injuries but the incident has left him understandably distressed.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone with any information to get in touch. Your information could be vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101 and ask to speak to an officer from West Cumbria CID.
