A police helicopter was called in for a search in West Cumbria after a report of a paraglider in trouble.

Officers received a report from a member of the public around 9.10am this morning of a paraglider making a swift descent, possibly in distress, in the area around Setmurthy and Isel, near The Lakes Distillery.

No missing person report was received.

Police said initial searches had been carried out, including with the help of a police helicopter, but nothing was found.

More officers were sent to carry out a ground search, with mountain rescuers and a drone brought in to help.

The search was called off after police found no evidence of a paragliding accident.

A spokesman said: "Whilst the search has been cancelled, Cumbria Constabulary would still like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything or who has any information about this report.

"We would particularly like to hear from anyone who has been paragliding in West Cumbria today."
