Two Workington men have been handed jail terms after a man was attacked.

David Greggain, 37, and Jack Nicholson, 24, were sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court.

They admitted assaulting Terrence Kinrade, causing him actual bodily harm, on August 19.

Greggain was also punished after pleading guilty to a common assault on the same victim four days earlier.

Jon Close, prosecuting, said Mr Kinrade had attempted to intervene on August 15 in an argument between Greggain and his partner.

“As he did so he was punched by the defendant to the face and body,” said Mr Close.

Greggain was bailed in relation to that matter and ordered not to contact Mr Kinrade.

But four days later trouble flared at Greggain’s house while Mr Kinrade was inside. Nicholson, also present, followed Greggain’s request to block a doorway and prevent Mr Kinrade leaving.

“It was at this point that Mr Greggain became enraged,” said Mr Close. “He punched the complainant on two occasions to the face.” Mr Kinrade was left bloodied.

Greggain and Nicholson then walked down the street with Mr Kinrade, who fled and managed to seek help.

Both Greggain, of John Street and Nicholson, of Guard Street, had been remanded in custody since the incident.

Greggain was handed a total prison sentence of 12 months by Judge Tony Lancaster, who gave Nicholson a 10-month term in respect of his lesser role in the assault.

Both were made subject of a restraining order banning any contact with the victim for two years.
