Last week's stabbing in Workington was the second such incident in the town in just over a week, it has been revealed.

On Friday, 31-year-old Michael Hill was stabbed in Firth View Walk.

But police have now revealed details of a separate attack, a week earlier, in which a 32-year-old suffered a stab wound to the chest in nearby West View Walk.

A spokesman for the force, which has only just released details of the March 17 incident, said the incidents were not connected.

On Monday, Jonathan Graham Winstanley, 18, of Firth View Walk, appeared before magistrates accused of grievous bodily harm against Mr Hill in connection with the incident on Friday.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before a judge at Carlisle Crown Court on April 24.

John Wayne Conaway, 41, of Devonshire Street, has been charged with grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article in public in relation to the West View Walk incident.

He appeared at magistrates court in Carlisle last week, where the case was referred to the crown court.

Conaway, who was remanded in custody, is due to appear before Carlisle crown court on April 21.

Police are appealing for witnesses to that incident to come forward and are keen to speak to a taxi driver who dropped off two men in the area.
