A man tried to drag a woman into his car in Dearham in the early hours of this morning.
The woman, in her 30s, was walking past the village cemetery on Main Street between 12midnight and 1am when a white man pulled over in his car and tried to get the woman into the vehicle.
The man was described as middle aged with a local accent.
He was around 5ft 8ins tall, stocky, with short grey hair, no facial hair and 'piercing' eyes.
He was wearing a dark coloured bomber jacket.
He drove a red or burgundy Vauxhall Cavalier or similar car.
The woman was not injured during the incident but has been distressed by what happened, say police.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, who saw a man acting suspiciously in the area, should contact police on 0845 3300247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
