STUDENTS taking part in a sports initiative were paid a visit by Workington MP Tony Cunningham last Friday.
The youngsters who attend Beacon Hill Community School, Aspatria, are part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport programme.
It uses sport to inspire young people inside and outside of the classroom, and is aimed at those at risk of opting out of school.
Ben Stimson, director of responsibility and reputation for BSkyB, said: “We are delighted that Mr Cunningham could see first hand the progress the students have made.”
Mr Cunningham was shown around the school by two students and witnessed them taking part in activities.
He also heard from teachers and the Youth Sport Trust about how the initiative boosts performance in school and improves confidence.
It is organised by the Youth Sport Trust in partnership with Sky and has helped more than 16,000 young people over the last five years.
